Lumber Calculator for Construction

Lumber Calculator

Estimate the quantity, volume (in board feet), and cost of lumber for construction projects like framing, decking, or flooring.

About Lumber Calculation

The **Lumber Calculator** helps estimate the number of boards, total volume (in board feet), and cost for construction projects such as wall framing, decking, or flooring. It accounts for lumber size, project dimensions, stud spacing (for framing), and waste allowance to ensure accurate material planning.

The key unit is the **Board Foot**: a volume equal to 1 foot long, 1 foot wide, and 1 inch thick. The formula for a single board is:

Board Feet = (Length (ft) × Width (in) × Thickness (in)) ÷ 12

For framing, the calculator computes the number of studs based on wall length and spacing (e.g., 16" or 24" on-center), plus top and bottom plates. For decking or flooring, it calculates the number of boards needed to cover a given area, considering the board’s width and length.
