Formula
The main formula is:
Weight = Length × Width × Height × Density × Quantity × (1 + Waste%)
Important Considerations
- Unit Consistency: Ensure all dimensions are in meters (or feet if using imperial units).
- Material Density: Select the correct material; density affects the weight calculation directly.
- Waste Allowance: Include 5–10% to account for material loss or handling.
- Quantity: Multiply by the number of boxes to get total weight.
- Cost Estimation: Enter price per kg or lb to calculate total cost.
Example
A steel box measuring 1.2 m × 0.5 m × 0.4 m with density 7850 kg/m³:
Weight = 1.2 × 0.5 × 0.4 × 7850 = 1,884 kg
Two boxes would weigh: 1,884 × 2 = 3,768 kg. If steel costs $2 per kg, total cost = $7,536.
