Horizontal and Vertical Cylindrical Tank Fluid Volume Calculator

About Cylindrical Tank Fluid Volume Calculation

A cylindrical tank can be oriented horizontally or vertically, and calculating its fluid volume depends on its geometry and the fluid level inside.

For partial fills, geometry-based formulas determine the liquid segment area. Full tank capacity is calculated using total tank dimensions.

Vertical Tank Formula

Volume of liquid when height \( h \):

\( V = \pi r^2 h \)

Horizontal Tank Formula

When partially filled, the cross-sectional area is computed using:

\( A = r^2 \cos^{-1}\left(\frac{r - h}{r}\right) - (r - h)\sqrt{2rh - h^2} \)

Then, \( V = A \times L \), where \( L \) is the tank length.
